BMG singer/songwriter and #1 hitmaker Elvie Shane has released his acclaimed debut album Backslider on CD in the UK and Europe today, available on a physical format for the first time following a digital release just over a year ago. The album features fifteen songs, including his debut US #1 single, the major viral hit ‘My Boy’, which has now accumulated almost 300 million streams worldwide.
Backslider embodies the crunchy hooks of Classic Rock and the nostalgia of Country music, as well as the emotional electricity of Gospel and R&B. Shane co-wrote each of the cohesive 15-song set, painting a sonic “bigger picture” of not just himself, but life in small-town America – it’s just as gritty as it is graceful. The album tells the story of Shane’s life journey; full of backroad turns, straightaways and backslides, with each song revealing different chapters and sounds as distinctive as its maker. Receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone and Nashville Scene, Backslider is available to stream/download and purchase on physical formats worldwide.
2023 has been a busy year for Shane already. In January, he released a spine-tingling version of The Rolling Stones’ acclaimed 1968 hit ‘Sympathy for the Devil’, as part of the forthcoming Stoned Cold Country album – a 60th anniversary tribute to The Rolling Stones from some of Country’s biggest names. Stream Shane’s version of “Sympathy for the Devil” The full Stoned Cold Country album will be available on Friday, March 17th, with an early release on physical formats (CD/vinyl) in the UK and Europe on March 10th.
Shane is most recently featured on The Cadillac Three’s latest release ‘Hillbilly’ alongside Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show), the first new track for the band in nearly two years. Dripping with grit, the mid-tempo stomper grooves along smoothly before launching into a double time breakdown in the bridge, showcasing genre-bending flair.
“I’ve been a fan of The Cadillac Three since before that was their name. So, when I got the invitation to join them on the road for a weekend of writing, the answer was easy” said Shane. “’Hillbilly’ was born the second day on the road. To me, it’s a touch of TC3 roots and a lot of where I come from. It’s a cautionary tale about how easily you can fall into the trap of substance abuse coming from small rural towns like the one I live in now. I believe it has the right amount of grit and rock n roll to reach the intended audience. And I’m so proud to be on a song with a group I’m truly a huge fan of.”
